World Heritage enriched by the grandeur of classical music
San Cristóbal de La Laguna will be the epicentre of a new edition of the CLE Festival, Classical Laguna Experience, which in its 2024 edition will also extend to Vallehermoso and Arrecife
The Classical Laguna Experience Festival (CLE) returns in 2024 with a programme that promises to further solidify its position within the cultural landscape of the Canary Islands. Since its inception in 2020, this event has made a significant impact and has become an essential platform for classical music in the islands. This year, the festival will take place from 3rd to 10th October, with activities in San Cristóbal de La Laguna, Tenerife, Vallehermoso in La Gomera, and Arrecife in Lanzarote, offering a culturally rich and diverse experience.
San Cristóbal de La Laguna, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, will serve as one of the festival's focal points. The city, with its historical and architectural value, provides the perfect setting for enjoying classical music in a unique environment. CLE is distinguished by its commitment to bringing classical music to iconic venues, and this edition will include places such as the Garajonay National Park in La Gomera, also recognised for its natural heritage. These locations not only allow the audience to enjoy music but also highlight the cultural and natural wealth of the Canary Islands, adding an extra dimension to the musical experience.
One of the most anticipated events of the festival is the European premiere of the opera Luciérnaga, composed by Mexican Gabriela Ortíz, which will be performed by the Classical Laguna Orchestra (CLEO), conducted by maestro Ludwig Carrasco. Soprano Carmen Acosta, renowned for her powerful voice and stage presence, will take the leading role in this production, bringing her exceptional talent to the festival. This premiere exemplifies CLE’s dedication to including both classical and contemporary works in its programme, offering a diverse experience for all audiences, from classical music enthusiasts to those encountering the genre for the first time.
The CLE is not merely a music festival but also a space where historical heritage and musical art meet. The carefully curated repertoire and chosen venues aim to create a complete sensory experience, enriching both the music and the spaces that host it. Furthermore, the festival seeks to foster a deeper connection between both local and international audiences and classical music, inviting them to explore the genre from new perspectives. With this 2024 edition, the festival promises to be an unforgettable event, further establishing itself as one of the most important and anticipated cultural events in the Canary Islands, contributing to the cultural enrichment of the region.
